Kuma Art Residency with Aida Šehović and Arna Mačkić

This October, we had the pleasure of welcoming artist Aida Šehović and architect Arna Mačkić to our studio for a residency.

Together they worked on Cups of Memory, a research project created to decolonize the public memory of the Srebrenica Genocide in Dutch history and public space.

Arna Mačkić, co-founder of Studio L A based in Amsterdam, addresses societal issues through architecture focused on accessibility, refugee housing, and post-war impact. She is also the author of Mortal Cities and Forgotten Monuments, named one of 2015’s best architecture books by The Guardian.

Aida Šehović is the founder of ŠTO TE NEMA, a non-profit organization dedicated to imagining and building a world without genocide. Her participatory monument to Srebrenica Genocide had traveled to 15 cities globally from 2006 to 2020.

“Sharing time together during our residency at Kuma, in a space devoted entirely to our research, has been both profoundly inspiring and deeply productive.” Aida Šehović and Arna Mačkić

Hosting a residency program has been a long-time dream of ours, and we are thrilled to see it finally come to life.
