Workshop “The Art of Archive”

In August 2024, Kuma International collaborated with the Adopt Documentation Center in Srebrenica on a two-day workshop developed during the International Week of Srebrenica. Hosted at the Documentation Center, the workshop brought together young participants from Srebrenica and surrounding areas to explore the relationship between archives, memory, and contemporary artistic practice.

Led by artists Ibro Hasanović and Vladimir Miladinović, the workshop focused on the theme “The Art of Archive,” examining how archival materials can function not only as repositories of historical information, but also as spaces for critical reflection, interpretation, and collective memory. Through discussions, research, and artistic exercises, participants engaged directly with materials preserved within Adopt’s archive and reflected on the role archives play in shaping public understanding of the past.

Throughout the workshop, participants developed drawings, visual responses, and short video works inspired by the Documentation Center’s materials and by conversations surrounding memory, representation, and post-conflict realities. The program highlighted how visual art can become an important tool for processing individual and collective histories, preserving memory, and creating spaces for dialogue and understanding among younger generations.

Kuma International is deeply grateful to Adopt, the participating artists, and all the young participants whose openness, sensitivity, and engagement made this workshop possible.
