    Katerina Novakova

    Katerina is a student of the master’s program International Development Studies at Palacky University in Olomouc, Czech Republic. Currently, she is an intern at Kuma International while she is also writing a thesis titled “Visual Arts as a Tool for Reconciliation from Difficult Pasts in a Post-war Society” with Bosnia and Herzegovina as a case study. In the research part of the thesis, Katerina analyses the impact of Kuma’s work on the Bosnian society.

    After coming to Sarajevo for a two-week-long language course in summer 2019, Katerina fell in love with the city and decided to stay a few months more as an exchange student at the University of Sarajevo. In January 2020, she met Kuma’s director Claudia Zini and was offered an internship at Kuma International, so she decided to stay even longer.

    Katerina’s work experience mainly focuses on the topic of social inclusion. In Brno, her hometown, she was involved in the project of integration of the Syrian minority into the Czech society. Further, during her one-year-long European Voluntary Service in Lisbon, Portugal she worked in an association located in the poorest neighbourhood in the Iberian Peninsula. Katerina has also experience with many international educative programs on the topic of mainly peace-building and social inclusion as a project coordinator, as well as project designer.
