    Kuma International Summer School

    6th edition

    Sarajevo, July 10-15 2023

Established in 2018, Kuma International Summer School is the first program solely dedicated to contemporary art practices produced in the context of conflict and trauma. The school focuses on Bosnia and Herzegovina and the work artists in the region and the diaspora have been making in response to the political turmoil of the 1990s which began with the fall of Yugoslavia and ended with war and genocide.

This year's program provided participants with the opportunity to meet and engage with artists from the region, fostering a deeper understanding of their work ad the contexts that influenced it. Beyond the artistic aspects, the program also encompasses opportunities to explore Sarajevo, delving into its rich history and cultural heritage, creating a truly immersive experience.

At the same time, participants also had the unique opportunity to attend lectures offered by our long-standing partner, the WARM academy, a multidisciplinary educational program dedicated to photojournalism, reporting and contemporary conflict, presenting cutting-edge approaches, innovative techniques, and best practices being utilized across the globe by professionals in the field.
